My joints are always cracking and popping, is that normal?
Yes. Unless the cracking and popping is associated with pain then there is nothing you should really worry about. The human body is composed of many tissues such as tendons, ligaments, muscle, and bone. All of which need to glide and cooperate with one another. When we move this gliding of tissues may cause popping and cracking. I like to think of the body much like a vehicle. We put miles put on it every day. Old cars always squeak and make noise and not because they are necessarily broken but because they have all those miles on them the wear and the tear over time due to use.
I have struggled with sciatica for years now. What is the best treatment to help alleviate and prevent symptoms?
Sciatica is a very common condition that affects people of all demographics. The treatment approach that Dr. Jon utilizes is a combination of spinal decompression, chiropractic adjustments, and soft tissue mobilization. Specifically targeting regions that affect the sciatic nerve by mobilizing both osseous structures and soft tissue. This in combination with proper trunk stabilization and strengthening exercises targets the problem from every angle producing positive results in a timely manner.

Is chiropractic treatment safe?
Chiropractic is widely recognized as one of the safest drug-free, non-invasive therapies available for the treatment of neuromusculoskeletal complaints. Although chiropractic has an excellent safety record, no health treatment is completely free of potential adverse effects. The risks associated with chiropractic, however, are very small. Many patients feel immediate relief following chiropractic treatment, but some may experience mild soreness, stiffness or aching, just as they do after some forms of exercise. Current research shows that minor discomfort or soreness following spinal manipulation typically fades within 24 hours.
Should I workout before or after getting adjusted?
It all depends and there is no right or wrong answer. If there are sufficient mobility dysfunctions that will not allow the athlete to efficiently and safely perform the tasks of his or her sport then Doc Jon recommends getting worked on before. If that is not the case or of the patient is having trouble recovering from workouts or their sport then he recommends getting worked on after.
I have a disc herniation and my doctor told me I should not be lifting weights anymore is this true?
Every case is different and should be treated uniquely. Disc herniations are as common as any other condition seen in Chiropractic offices. A high percentage of patients with disc herniations are asymptomatic. Meaning they have no pain or symptoms. Meaning they can go on and live healthy lives without knowing. Many top athletes have multiple disc herniations and perform at very high levels. The severity of the disc herniations and symptoms will ultimately dictate care and the prognosis for each patient. Most patients respond well to care and do go back to doing the activities they love to do.
Is chiropractic treatment appropriate for children?
Yes, children can benefit from chiropractic care. Children are very physically active and experience many types of falls and blows from activities of daily living as well as from participating in sports. Injuries such as these may cause many symptoms including back and neck pain, stiffness, soreness or discomfort. Chiropractic care is always adapted to the individual patient. It is a highly skilled treatment, and in the case of children, very gentle.
Why is there a popping sound when a joint is adjusted?
Adjustment (or manipulation) of a joint may result in the release of a gas bubble between the joints, which makes a popping sound. The same thing occurs when you “crack” your knuckles. The noise is caused by the change of pressure within the joint, which results in gas bubbles being released. There is usually minimal, if any, discomfort involved.
